Are you ready for your adventure of a lifetime?

How my adventure began.
Who hasn’t always dreamed of going to the UK for their OE? It’s been a rite of passage for Kiwis for many years. I was one of them, heading over in the early 90’s for a two year jaunt that turned into a twelve year adventure.
After starting out in office admin roles paying as little as £3 per hour, a chance meeting with a friendly Kiwi recruitment agent led me to the world of IT Contracting. Almost overnight my pay multiplied, and after a couple of contracts, I was earning a great income plus the rewards of more responsibility and seniority.
After two years I gained sponsorship, allowing me to extend my stay with a Tier 2 visa. Within 5 year’s I was promoted to a Vice President role in a large American Bank.
I set up UK IT Careers in 2010 when I returned back to New Zealand after 15 years of working in various IT roles at some of the most prominent banking institutions in London. After seeing many others struggling to find decent well paid IT jobs, I realised there was an opportunity to help the thousands of Kiwis and Australians who go over to the UK each year wanting to make the most of their OE.
How you can make the most of your OE
Expat Kiwi’s can earn excellent money IT Contracting in London, but they need to know where to go, and who to talk to. It’s the classic case of not what you know but who you know that makes the difference.
I established UK IT Careers to help Kiwis and Aussies get a head start in the UK contracting market. Our aim is to help you to make the most of your OE while furthering your career (and to help you earn lots of money too!).
We are now a team of experienced consultants based in Auckland and London who can help prepare you for potential challenges and give you the tools and knowledge to be successful. With our friendly people-centric approach we aim to provide honest down-to-earth advice based on your individual circumstances.
While we mainly help those with Tier 5 Working Holiday Visas and EU passports get contracting roles, we also help secure sponsorship for those with more experience in specific skill sets. Whatever the case, as long as you have 2 years experience, we can help you get the right contract at the right rate quickly.
(Btw – the good news about IT contracting right now, is that it’s possible to earn well over the $35K threshold recently introduced by the UK government for those who want to stay more than 5 years. More on this in my next blog post)
Over the coming weeks we’re going to be talking a lot about what’s going on in the UK , how to be a successful contractor and latest developments on the visa front.
Are you ready for your adventure of a lifetime? If so, get in touch, we’d love to help.
Cheers
Chris
