Why you should come to the UK now

I hope you’re all now well over your New Year’s hangovers and well into thinking about your new year’s resolutions.  If one of them was to escape to Europe don’t delay.

You will have seen and heard a lot about Brexit in the news in recent months.  Some are no doubt sick of hearing about it!  But many of you are no doubt wondering what it all means for the big OE you have planned. In times of uncertainty, it’s easy to put things off for a while. It’s important to know however that Article 50 looks likely to be triggered by the end of March, which means the UK is likely to leave the EU by April 2019.  Nobody has a crystal ball, but after that, it could well be more challenging to travel between the UK and Europe.

Seeing Europe has long been a rite of passage for many Kiwis and Aussies and the UK has been a great place to be based for your OE.  This has been made possible by the working holiday visa scheme.  Every New Zealand or Australian passport holder between 18 and 31 qualifies for the UK Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa allowing them to live and work in the UK for up to 2 years.

There is now a 2-year window of opportunity for those who have been thinking about coming to the UK and see Europe before everything changes.  The UK employment rate is currently at an all-time high and opportunities are many.

London in particular is an awesome city to call home for a while, and remains one of the worlds most sought after cities to live in. The job opportunities are fantastic right now, the culture and nightlife are extraordinary, and it’s incredibly multi-cultural.
